Even though we are in the middle of a pandemic, gardening season is just around the corner. I will be teaching several classes this spring. The classes will be offered through Prior Lake Community Education and St Paul Community Education. The classes will be Basic Seed Starting and Square Foot Gardening. Please check out the respective websites for more information and registration.
Happy Gardening in 2021!
2020 has been a challenging year with all that has happened. Fortunately the gardens were not affected much and many people had additional time to spend in their gardens. This year Easy Gardens trialed a Specialized Community Supported Agriculture for several people. I believe it was a success. The participants received vegetables as they became ripe as well as eggs, maple syrup and honey during the year. A 4×8 garden was started for each participant. Vegetables chosen by the individual were planted and maintained through the season. I hope the participants enjoyed the vegetables. I also did learn a lot through the season and hope to carry that knowledge over to 2021 for even a better year.
If you are looking for a few seeds to start indoors or to plant later in the garden, come visit the Farmington Library’s new Seed Library. They have over 100 varieties of seeds for you to take home and plant FOR FREE! Visit the library’s website for more information.
It’s hard to believe that is almost the middle of March with the cold weather and the snow! If you are getting antsy to do some planting, this is the time to get all your pots, seeds and soil mix ready to plant indoors. You can start your peppers, some flowers, and herbs such as parsley, rosemary, thyme, and sage. You can also start your broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, kale, celery, and onion.
Not sure if you want to make a commitment on purchasing a custom raised bed?
Prices will range from $50 for 2′ x 2′ to $100 for 2’x4′. This price includes only the raised bed. We can provide the soil mix, seeds, and vegetables and set it up as well.
It’s that time of the year. It’s hard to think about gardening when the temperature is below freezing and all you see is snow outside.
I am starting to seed some vegetables now. I have started kale, broccoli, peppers, onions, brussel sprouts, and some herbs. If you have any special requests, please let me know.
I will be selling some at the Prior Lake Farmers Market beginning the first Saturday in May.
Do you like the raised garden beds but not quite ready to purchase a garden? You can now rent a garden! We are taking reservations for a raised bed for 2018. We will be renting four different sized gardens: 2×2, 2×3, 2×4, and 3×3.
Prices are as follows: 2×2 $50; 2×3 $75, and 3×3 or 2×4 $100.
What is included in the rental. The price includes the raised bed, grid, and soil mix. For a small fee, we will deliver and set it up at your home. All gardens will be delivered by the end of April 2018 and beginning of May 2018. If you would like it planted as well, fees will range from $25-$50.
This is a great way to see if this is something that you would like. At the end of the gardening season, we will pick up the garden, typically end of September and early October. If you want to keep the garden, pay what the garden would have cost with the soil mix minus the rental fee.
